Candy Cane Cup
So...
This past weekend was the candy cane cup at Nakkertok, always a fun event especially if you're local and get the comfort of sleeping in your own bed.
The prognosis, in the beginning, wasn't very good, calling for rain and high temperatures not conducive for ski racing, but it didn't turn out that bad.
We started Friday with some nice skate sprints with me somehow managing to end up second in the qualifier to no one's greatest shock except my own. Heats were hard and very aggressive, I found myself turned around (quite literally on top of the hill), but we made do and I fought my way into the final. I stayed strong, but led into the last downhill causing a nice little draft for the girls behind me resulting in an acceptable 4th place finish overall and 3rd in U20. Saturday was a completely difference race, we weren't skiing, it was more of an ice skating race (I swear they're trying to kill us). I survived the corners finishing 6th in Open, but I didn't feel at the top of my game. I went into Sunday's 10k classic hoping for a good turnout, but I just couldn't cut it, I was very tired off the start and that didn't improve much throughout the race. I still managed to come 6th in U20, but it just wasn't a result I was really happy with. I did somehow manage to finish out the weekend with an aggregate 6th place finish meaning I received 250$ from Marty and Kathy Hall who basically fund Eastern skiing. It was a nice way to pay for the weekend!Overall there was some good competition out there and as always I'm pumped to see what the next race brings. Big thank you to the Carleton team for waxing my skis this weekend and everyone who cheered!!!
The next time you'll hear from me I'll probably be in Europe so stay tuned!!!!
